[1]***Included in Sega Mega Drive Classic Collection (Steam version)***Un clásico de los beat'em up, algo arcaico, lento y corto, pero entretenido, especialmente por las transformaciones y por algunos enemigos memorables.

6 de 10***One of the first games for the MegaDrive and the pack-in game which came with the first MegaDrive/Genesis versions. A decent arcade port with a problem. The arcade version itself wasn't very good. The game is too short and too slow. The graphics were very nice for its time but nowadays the bad gameplay becomes more obvious. Some call this game a classic, and they are right because this game has a certain significance when it comes to the history of the MegaDrive/Genesis. But calling this game a classic because of its gameplay would be doubtful.***Also included in Classic Collection (aka Mega Games 4-in-1), released in Europe in 1996 and published by Sega, rated ELSPA-3, that included [game=#9802]Flicky[/game], [game=#9845]Gunstar Heroes[/game], [game=#9535]Altered Beast[/game] and [game=#9530]Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle[/game].***When Zeus, the legendary Greek God, brings you back to life, you set forth on a mission to rescue his daughter Athena from the underworld. Along the way, collect the Spirit Balls dropped by enemies to increase your strength and transform into a variety of mythical creatures with powerful attacks.***Growwwwlllll!

Gnashing its way over from the arcades comes this super-cool scare game. Shares strong links (and the Chicken Leg!) with Golden Axe.

Super Hydlide  Asmik;Seismic Software;Sega (T&E Soft)1989The Fairyland Council feared that the same evil in the legends was back again. A wise old oracle was among them. He predicted the second coming of evil. He also spoke of a young man who could save Fairyland from its gravest crisis. A young man was chosen to find the reason and source of the evil. As the people gathered to bid him good luck, they couldn't help but wonder if they had chosen the right one. What fate awaits our hero and Fairyland? Only you can answer those questions.***

[32]***
[27]***I have experienced better Action/RPG mixes than "Super Hydlide", which is a port of "Hydlide 3" originating from Japanese homecomputer systems. There are a couple of factors that make this game hard to handle. The weight system is annoying as is the time system, where you get gradually weaker when not resting in an inn after some time and the necessity of having enough food rations in your inventory. Other little annoying things are slowly moving NPCs blocking entrances, slow character movements, hitting with swords through walls and the fact that the graphics make it hard to see what is normal ground you can walk over and what is an obstacle. Speaking of graphics, they generally could be considered looking too much like coming from an 8-bit system and they can't conceal their mid 80's homecomputer origin. The music on the other hand features some nice and atmospheric tunes.

[27]***Nice early MegaDrive action game with impressive graphics and good music for its time. Playability and controls are ok and the player remains motivated to see all of the eight levels. In the Japanese version the hero is dressed differently as in the western versions and looks more like a fragile magician in his long robes, while he appears more figher-like in the western versions. The story is a weak point in the game, being just a "Rescue the girl and save the world" story with no developing story ingame. The Japanese version seems to have more story, at least they have a slightly longer intro scene and the game is based on a manga series.

Sword of Vermilion  Sega1989
[64]***
[63]***
[52]***Included in Sega Mega Drive Classic Collection (Steam version)***An RPG fair in history and exploration but abusive in boring and repetitive battles.

4 de 10***
[37]***
[27]***Early RPG for the Mega Drive. Makes use of several different perspectives. Overworld and dungeons are explored in first-person view. Towns and the special fighting screen are from above and the few boss fights from a special side-view. The graphics are nice, but suffer from palette swapping and a lack of variety when it comes to the environmental graphics. The gameplay consists of a rather simple formula. You visit a town which has a problem and you have to solve that problem by visiting a nearby cave, either recovering an important item or killing a boss enemy. That concept repeats through about a dozen of towns. Fighting is an important part of the game. And fighting you have to do a lot. The random encounter rate is high, too high for my taste. When it comes to a fight you have to actively kill the monsters on a special fight screen, bringing a big action component to the game.***When the evil wizard-king, Tsarkon, invaded Excalabria, King Erik V had no choice but to turn his infant son over to his most trusted warrior, Blade. As his castle burned, King Erik hurriedly gave Blade an ancient family heirloom, the Ring of Wisdom, and asked him to leave at once in the hopes that the young heir to the throne would survive. Blade raised Erik VI as his own, knowing one day the prince would fulfill the prophecy of the Malaga fortune tellers. Now, eighteen years later, Erik VI returns to Excalabria to avenge his father’s death and reclaim the kingdom.***Sword of Vermilion is about the role of Erik's son, who takes on a quest of revenge to defeat Tsarkon and free the world of Vermilion from evil. In the town of Excalabria, the people went about their business and tended to the fields. One day, vicious fighting broke out everywhere as the army of Cartahena, led by the wizard-king Tsarkon, swarmed all over the town. The townsmen were overwhelmed. The castle of King Erik V collapsed. Erik summoned his bravest, strongest and most faithful warrior, Blade, and gave him his infant son and an ancient family heirloom, the ring of wisdom. He ordered Blade to save himself and the child while the castle burned. Blade traveled to a small village named Wyclif, where he settled down and raised the child as his own son. Eighteen years later, the son of Erik begins his quest. Save the world of Vermilion and fulfill the prophecy of the Malaga fortune-tellers!

Sorcerian  Sega (Sega;Nihon Falcom)1990Sorcerian is the fifth game in the "Dragon Slayer" series and keeps its tradtion that all games are vastly different in regards to gameplay. What I liked is the idea of having a couple of smaller missions instead of one huge adventure. And the Mega Drive version is one of the best versions of Sorcerian around. However since it being in Japanese only (and no fan-translation available at the time I am writing this) it is only half as enjoyable and became pretty much too much hassle for me to play it longer than it would have deserved. labelimageminimize

[27]***As Rhys, the crown prince of the Orakian kingdom of Landen, you are engaged to be married to Maia, a woman from a rival kingdom. But Maia is kidnapped on your wedding day, setting you on a quest filled with twists and turns that will reintroduce you to people and places from previous Phantasy Star games. This epic spans several generations of characters, and your choices will dramatically impact the way the story unfolds, which makes it a great game to play all the way through more than once. In Phantasy Star III, things aren't always what they seem-check it out and watch the mysteries unfold.***It starts simply enough. On your wedding day, your bride-to-be is captured by a rival kingdom, and you set off on a quest to get her back. However, once you do save her, you discover the truth - that she is in reality the princess of this rival kingdom! At this point, the game offers you a choice: You may choose to marry either her, or one of your companions from your own homeland. The decision you make here will affect the way the rest of the game unfolds. Though considered by many the weakest game in the series, PS III deserves note for its unique plot development, which unfolds over the course of three generations. With four different endings depending on who you choose to marry, there's plenty of replay value.
